August 2008

Thank you all for your kind emails and well wishes as we wait patiently for our baby!  We are spending these last few days cleaning, resting and finishing up some last minute orders.  Friday, I shipped out several pieces for a group show I’m a part of at Nahcotta ( in New Hampshire) that opens the beginning of September.  While I will not be heading out there, I hope if you are in the area you’ll stop by.  It is called the ‘Enormous Tiny Art Show IV’ and all the pieces will be 10 inches or smaller.  I participated in it last year and it looked like a great event!   They just set up a Flicker account with images of several of the pieces that will be showing that you can check out here.  This will probably be my last post for a little while as little Adelaide will be arriving this week.  We are so, so excited to finally meet her!  Hooray!

Happy Sunday,

Rachel

We are still patiently waiting for miss Adelaide. I was out for a walk the other afternoon and a little girl asked if my baby was in a sling – her mom corrected her and told her she was still in my uterus. It was pretty funny. I’m hoping to put her in a sling pretty soon. I’ve been a bit discouraged/depressed as of yesterday to find out things aren’t really progressing and I’ll need to be induced early next week. She is just too cozy in there. Hope to share some photos of the baby soon – cross your fingers for me.

Crafterall’s amazing card sets and other paper-cut wonders immediately caught our eye because of our love of maps.  She makes some lovely prints and other fun designs on cards, but our favorites are the topographically inspired layer cuts shown above. The ‘bubbles’ are another favorite. All handmade, both provide little art gems. Check out her Etsy site for more images.

Rachel’s tiniest paintings evolved from her map painting series when she made some gifts for some friends. She started with some cast pendants found at a local craft store and glued in some maps over which she layered some glaze and small hand painted images reminiscent of her larger map paintings. When people kept commenting on how great they are, we decided to make more and more. I am now proud to help out by cutting and gluing the maps and prepping them for Rachel’s tiny paintings. Check out a sampling, including some brand new posts today, at her Etsy site. They are also available for purchase at some shops, including Presents of Mind in Portland, Queen Bee in Nashville, and The Black Market in Lexington, KY.

Here’s a little series I did last year after I saw a terrific exhibit on Australian Aboriginal art at the Seattle Art Museum. I was quite inspired to play with simple shapes and colors and created this series of six Clouds. Thought I would share to show some different pieces I’ve worked on. Have a great weekend!

Well, still no baby. She seems to be quite cozy even though she is now past her due date. Maybe this over 100 degree weather we are having will help her make an appearance. Until then, I will hang out very close to our air conditioner and look at the very popular Etsy seller, John Golden’s prints. These would be great in a child’s room – I love his color pallet. They are also very affordable (about $20-$30 a piece). I wish he had one that said something about coaxing a much loved baby out – By Order of the Management. : )

Cheers and ice cubes,

Rachel

The Storque, on Etsy, just posted an interview with Rachel for their series “Quit Your Day Job.” Click on over with this link and leave a comment if you’d like. There are some lovely photos of Rachel’s workspace and a little background on how she got started on Etsy and such.

I’ve been eying these little votive holders by etsy artists Mary and Chris of Maryink. They also have lots of other screen printed goodies, but how can you resist these little wonders? So cute!

Happy Sunday,

Rachel

Hello all,

I’ve spent way too much time this morning setting up a Facebook account. I’m not usually into those social networking sites, but it’s been awfully fun to look up old friends and post some photos. Jon and I are still patiently waiting on the baby to be ready to come – her official due date is on Monday. I think it is really settling in that we are going to have her so, so soon. We’ve been getting lots of calls and emails from friends and family from all over – it’s been nice to catch up with everyone.

I started doing this pinwheel design in my map painting series. Here’s a little collection – they are looking so sweet! You can see more at my website or etsy shop.

Happy Friday,

Rachel

I was looking through some old photos today and thought I would share some of the progression of my map painting series over the last few years. Here is a series of abstracted poppies beginning in mid 2006, through some from early 2007, and finally the last two images from recent works – ‘Adelaide’ and ‘Lambert.’ Check out more of my recent work at my website or peruse work for sale on my etsy shop.
