January 2009

I had to share some recent pictures of Adelaide – I can’t believe she is almost 5 months old!  We went to the Oregon coast last week and enjoyed some unusually warm weather for January, it was so nice to soak in some sunshine.  I’m ready for Spring, but alas, they are predicting more snow on Sunday.  I brought along three years of digital pictures on our trip – over 800 – that I thought I should organize and put into albums before I got completely behind.  I finished that project and now they look much nicer in pretty Kolo albums than in piles all over the office.  We take so many pictures of our little girl – I just want to preserve it all.  She is getting so funny, when you pull out the camera she starts smiling.

I think we are all coming down with a cold – me first – I have been in bed for the last day and a half.  Hopefully the little one won’t get it.  I’ve been drinking fresh ginger grated and steeped in hot water with a touch of honey.  I’m sure it helps, but if not it is still a mighty tasty winter beverage. I hope we are back to feeling good soon – we’ve got some celebrating to do!  1000 Etsy sales, a journal offer ( I’ll share more about this later), and my birthday this week!

Happy Monday,

I was just reading an interview with ‘Made by Mavis‘ – Etsy’s featured seller this week- and felt inspired to do a little post about her darling items.  She makes these beautiful moss terrariums in pretty little glass jars.  They are little green gardens for your windowsill!  Sigh.

Since we live in an apartment on a busy street, without space to play in the dirt, I love to dream about gardening.  Before becoming a painter, I thought I would end up in a career having to do with landscaping.  I worked at a nursery through college and spent some summers doing landscaping/yard work.  Now every Spring I just go a little green crazy, wanting to plant and trim and grow.  This year we are looking to (maybe) buy a home.  This just might be the year for a bit of earth of my own.

Cheers,

Rachel

Happy New Year!

Well, I’m back after a very busy holiday season and a couple of weeks to recoup.  I’m starting a bunch of little map paintings – I’m down to only four 5″ x 5″!  It was nice to take a break from painting, but I am happy to start up again – I always start missing it if I’m away too long.  We had an amazing Christmas – snow for a week – a real winter wonderland!  We got plenty of pictures of Adelaide in her first snow, very cute.  Also cute was a this cute little handmade badger we got for her for Christmas from super crafter Rebecca of Smitten!  We met Rebecca at the One of a Kind Show in Vancouver (a lovely person in addition to her lovley creations).   She is out of Victoria, BC and makes these adorable animals of endangered critters from BC.  Each is incredibly well made, using organic linen and reclaimed fabric, and comes with a matching handmade tote bag for your little one to carry around their little friend.  Check out her new etsy shop BeSmitten to see more.

Best wishes for 2009,

Rachel
